Waste Lands Board.

The District Officer recommended that the land should be leased to the applicant. — The Board resolved to give,M'Cormack a license to occupy under the 161ijt section of the Act. BLOPEDOWN. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Alexander Swhan, applied to have sections 13, 14, and 15, block L, Slopedown District, opened for application at LI p_er acre, under section 7, Waste Lands Administration Act, 1876. Mr Connell having remarked that the Board was losing 2s 6d per acre rental through allowing the land to lie idle, the Chaibman replied that Mr Connell seemed to forget "the natural increment." The Board resolved that the sections be offered as land of special value at the upset price of 21s per acre. BESBBVE AT MACRAES. An adjourned application by the Waikouaiti Council, thnt sections 43 and 44, block 1., Macraes Township, be reserved for a public pound and accommodation paddock in connection therewith, was postponed, Mr Gkeen stating that the Council had received a circular from the Government asking them to make provision for pound accommodation. SHOTOVEB. Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop, appeared on behalf of Patrick Kerin to purchase sections 74 and 75, block m, Shotover District, held by him under an agricultural lease. — Refused, in accordance with the Warden's recommendation ; the applicant to have a new lease. r DUNBACK. Mr A. Willis, on behalf of J. E. Glover, applied to purchase sections 11, 12, 13, and 14, Dunback district. — Referred to the District Officer to report as to the auriferous character ! •f the ground. MABEWHENDA. Mr Alex. Wfllis, on behalf of John Frater, applied for permission to purchase 400 acres on Bun No. 17, block X., Marewhenua.—Refused, the Board ruling that the runholder's oonsent must be first obtained. DKFEBRED PAYMENT LEASES. Banger Hughan, reported, .on the following applications fer deferred payment leases, which were granted under section 54 of the Act: — Jas. M'Kernan, sections 22, block VIIL, and 26, block IX., Toi Toisj William Swallow, section 25, block IX., Toi Tcis ; Alexander Syme, sectienl2, block OL^.Waikaka; Edward Bo we, section 4, block L, Waikaka; Peter Cumming, sections 4 and 7, block X.. Waipahi ; Edmond Hayes, sections 46 and 57, block VIL, WaipahL The following applications to purchase under deferred payment leases .were granted :— Thos. Fahey, sections 3 and 11, block IIL, Tuapeka Weet ; Alexander Reid, sections 68, block V., and 27, block V., Waitahuna East , ADBIFBBOO9 LAND AT KYEBOBN. Mr J. F. Christian and Party lodged some objections to D.-M'CredVs application to purchase '120 acres in the iLyeburn district. It app*aged from Mr Christian's remarks that the land applied for was of an auriferous character. —Referred to the district officer to report. PBICE OF COAL AT CHATTON. Bang&r Hugban recommended the price to be charged for coal by licensees at Chatton District, as-tollows : — One horse load at the pit's mouth, 4s 6d ; two-horse load, 7s 6d ; threehone load, & 6d ; four-horse load, 10s.— The Board resolved to* fix the price at 10s per ton, the quantity to be calculated as nearly as possible. BOSH RESERVES. Banger Hughan reported on an application by Jame3 Bobertson to purchase 50 acres bush, section 45, block I^. Warepa District, adjoining 34 and 35.— The Board withdrew the section from sale, the Chaibman remarking that the bush reserveawerb simply marked on the map, and not reserved by legal enactment. kuwoodkouse's application. A letter was received from Mr F. Woodhouse concerning bis request for a lease under section 54 of the Waste Lands Act, considered by the Board on the 25th ult.— Referred to the District Officer to report. TEVIOT. Mr John Beighton, as Mayor of Roxburgh, applied that: sections 8, 9, and 10, block X., Teviot district, be reserved from application for agricultural leasing, on the ground that it embraces the only available track from Roxburgh to the diggings, and commonage behind. The Board resolved to adhere to its former decision;' - CEBTIPICATE3. Gold-mining certificates from William Grayson and John Patersoc, section 10, Mount Buster, were approved. FOBBST TBEE PLANTING.

Messre Murray, Roberts, and Co., applied fora license under the 169 th section of the Waste Land Act, 1872, to occupy 200 acres on Bun 213b, for forest tree planting. The Naseby District Officer reported that there was no objection to the application, which was granted, the Chaibman remarking that at present the district was a very treeless one.

BOAD USE IK LAKE COUNTY.

The Board considered a letter from the Clerk •f the Lake County Council, requesting that a license to G. Ludeman be not renewed except on condition.that a road line along the margin of the lake is kept open to the public ; also, a letter from the District Land Officer of Queenstown, on the same subject. It appeared that legal proceedings had been taken by Ludeman and Bamett, who respectively have a slaughteryard 'and a fellmongery adjoining each other's residence. — The matter was postponed.

OAHOKLLATION OF GOLD MINING LEASES.

The following gold mining leases were cancelled :—

Edward M'Caffrey, sections 67 and 73, block XH, Shotover ; T. W. M'Bonald, sections 71 and 74, block XIX., Shotover ; Henry Danker, section 15, block XIX., Shotover • Lewis Harris, section 9, block VI. , Skippers Creek ; Felix Gorman, section 3, block VIL, Mid Wakatip ; Andrew Horan, section 10, block X., Skippers Creek.

- BEOOVEBT OF BESTS AT WAKATIP. The Board considered a telegram from the District Land Officer at Arrow in regard to action being taken for the recovery of rents on the Wakatip runs, also- a return showing rents due.

The Chairman : There ia about L6OOO still owing for rents. The question is whether authority should be given for proceedings being taken up there for the recovery of them. It should- be gone about with prudence, to see whether they have powder and shot before we go into the expense. The fact is that they have all found the rents too high, and a lot of them trill not pay. Referred to the Chief Commissioner, with power to take legal proceedings.

PROSPECTING FOR COAL.

Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop, for Samuel Williams, applied for protection while prospecting for coal on 30 acres of land on the Kawarau,' adjoining the coal lease lately held by. Mr Dooley. Mr R. Gillies said the runholders' conaent hstd been obtained. The Board approved of the application, and promised not to interfere with Williams during a reasonable period.

AGRICULTURAL LEASES. I The following applications to purchase under agricultural lease were approved : — W. and J. Honnsr, sections 48, 49, and 50, block IIL, Benger; John Inglis, section 31, block 11., Teviot ; Thomas Kelly, sections 26, block V., and 9, block VL, Tuapeka East; Erancis Oudaile, section 42, block VII., Waitahuna East; James Low, section 63, block VII., Waitahuna East; William Kell, section 11, block VII., Waitahuna West ; Thomas Kell, sections 3 and 14, block VII. , Waitahuna West ; William and Thomas Kell, section 15, block VII., Waitahuna West. _ Mr Charles Cooper's certificate of application for agricultural lease of section 7, block XV., Crookston, was approved. The applications of H. J. and E. A. Chapman (section 2, Gimmerburn), and the Mount Ida Pastoral Investment Company (section 1, block VL, Maniototo), were refused. The following applications to exchange agricultural for deferred payment leases were approved :— Samuel French, section 58, block V., Tuapeka East; Eobert and Peter Jenkins, settdons 14 and 15, block 11., Crookston ; John Butler, sections 34 and 35, block 1., Cairn Hill. _ The following agricultural leases for cancellation were approved: — Matthew Holmes, sections 1, block VIL, and 1, block Vlll., Mount Hyde ; Eobert M'Leod, section 68, block XIX., Shotovar.
