THE DUNEDIN FEVER HOSPITAL.
In connection witfi. the Fever Hospital excitement, a public meeting convened by the Mayor of Dunedin, was held; in the Temperance Hall, on Tuesday Evening. There were about 300 : persons present — the place being' little more than half full. The meeting was called to consider the question of continuing - the Fever Hospital on the Town Belt; The Mayor presided, and the speakers were Drs. Borrows and Bakewell, and Messrs Robt. Wilson, Robt. Grilles,,/ Walter, Langlands, Keith Ramsay, Rennie, $Kerwin, juri., and Treseder. . The', conduct of the committee which. had moved, the Supreme Court in. the matter of the Hospital was • warmly attacked ; and as warmly defended. ■ The outcome 'oi the meeting was, that the following resolutions were passed, after numerous amendments had been offered and negatived :— That, in the opinion of this meeting, it is desirable and essential, in the interest' of 'the whole inhabitants of the city, that a Hospital for the reception of infectious -and contagious diseases should be' maintained, to be available at such times as occasion may arise. ' That the Corporation, acting, as the 'Local Board of ' Health, be' requested ;to re-open the present Fever- Hospital, and keep it open until the' present (epidemic of scarlet, fever; .has • passed, a <->> :_j; i,s, •_ .^ , ;^i < s ' ~,-.y, ;s *.h £ .
