BOOKMAKERS AT ASCOT.

It is said that some of the bookmakers had a pretty rosy time of it at Ascot. One of the fraternity throws in for £10,000, and another for £8000. As evidence of " tall betting," it is reported that Lord Dudley had 6000 to 5000 about Julius Cseaar for the Prince of Wales's Stakes at this meeting. The horse was third. He also took 7000 to 4000 about Forerunner for the Cup, and the horse was likewise third. Further, he took 10,000 to 4000 about Talisman for the Alexandra Plate. The horse was unplaced. 7500 to 5000 about tangible, and, to finish up with, he had 10,000 to 5000 on Petraroh in one bet, and it is alao stated that he bet 12,000 to 2000 on the seme horse when Coltness beat him, and that, as before hinted, he lost 20,000 by the week. This has gone the rounds of some of the papers, and it is very likely to be true.
