THE BETTING MARKET.
Business has been a little brisker this week, the Melbourne Cnp being the prin cipal medium of speculation, a fair amount of money having been invested in in favour of Goldsbrough at prices ranging from 100 to 4 to 100 to 8. There seemed to be an opinion abroad that he was an unlikely starter for the Cup, and one member of the ring had the temerity to offer 1000 to 40 against him. This was immediately accepted, and he gradually returned to his former price, 100 to 8. On Saturday, after Southern Cross's victory, 1000 to 70 was booked about Dilke, and subsequently he received some support at 100 to 8, and Wollomai had friends to accept 100 to 4. Kingfisher, who is very firm, has been hs«cked at 100 to 12, and Melbourne at 100 to 10. For the Derby, Maid of All Work increases in favour, and Canterbury, who went to an outside price, is now at 100 to 10, he having previously been backed at 100 to 8.
