PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.

The regular fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held on Monday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor, and Messrs -Asher, M'Kinlay, M'Gregor, Pteid, Menelaus, and Miller. The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed, the following CORBESPOKDENCE was disposed of ;—; — A letter from Mr Alex. Willis, TJnder-See-retary, with reference to an application made by the Council for the granting of a reserve for water supply purposes. The under-Secretary announced that the instructions had been issued to the Commissioner of Crown Lands to prepare a Crown Grant of the land for the Port Chalmers water supply. The letter tvas ordered to be received. A letter from Mr Pearce, contractor for the Water Works, requesting that as Messrs CargilLj and Gihbs have undertaken to contract for the water pipes, the Council would agree to — upon the delivery of the pipes— pay to Messrs Cargills and Gibbs the percentage ante agreed to upon the contract according to the work done. The letter was erdered to be received. - A letter from Mr Hinchcliffe, respectfully requesting that the Council would sanction the ; construction of a footpath from his section to Laing street. Referred to the Works Committee for report. 1 Letters from Messrs Shaw and John Coulson, requesting that footpaths be constructed to the sections for the adjoining highways. Referred to the Works Committee for a report. A letter from Mr Lilly, asking leave to erect scaffolding over the footpath in George street for the purpose of repairing the Royal Hotel stables. Request granted subject to the supervision of the Inspector of Works. REPORTS. Councillor M'Gbegoe, on behalf of the Reserves Committee, stated that the Committee had not prepared a formal report, but he might state verbally that it was in favour of accepting Mr Dawson'a offer for the quarry he proposed opening npon the Town Belt, and he moved that the offer be accepted. No seconder. Councillor Miller moved as an amendment that the matter stand over until the Reserves Committee report.fully upon it, and lay a plan of the ground before the Council. Seconded by Councillor Reid and carried. ACCOUNTS. A number- of accounts, including return of Mr Proudfoot's deposit upon crossings, less 10s returned for damage done to pavement, were passed. They aggregated £39 18s Gd. ' MISCELLANEOUS. Councillor Asher moved that the Clerk devote a portion of each day during the ensuing fortnight to personally collecting rates, and to be in attendance at the Town Hall in the afternoon to receive rates, &c. Also, that all rates, &c, outstanding after the 20th inst., be put into the hands of the solicitor for immediate recovery. Seconded by Councillor M'Gregor and carried. It was resolved that Mr Webb at once proceed to prepare the valuation roll for the current year. The Council then adjourned.
