PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Portobello Road Board was held on the 28t^ ult. The minutes of the last meeting were confirmed. Letters from Messrs G. M 'Oartney and W} Dickson were again postponed for consideration at next meeting. After an account for wages for the Papauui road had been passed for payment, the bye-laws to prevent tk* straying of cattle on the district roads were, at the recommendation of the Provincial Solicitor, amended, by making the penalty " one soilling, and not more than two shillings and sixpence for each offence." The tender for rangerahip under the above byelaw, by Mr K. Allen, was received and accepted ; and his duties to commence as soon aa the appointment has received the sanction of the Government.
Two letters were received, one from Mr W. Rodger, Broad Bay, the other from Joseph Anderson, Sandy Mount, but consideration of them was postponed till next meeting.
A progress payment of £30 was passod to R. Dick, contractor, for work on Arthur's Seat Road ; and the business of the meeting closed by passing a resolution that a notice be inserted in the Provincial Government Gazette, that all rates remaining uupaid after the 20th January next, be recovered by legal process.
