Wellington, February 12th.

The police have captured George Maurice Drummond, the absconding mauager of the Provincial and Suburban Bank, Richmond, Melbourne, aboard the Mikado this after noon, en route for San Franciso. In a few days tho Luna will sail on the long-meditated examination of the const line I of both islands, to determine upon the sites for the erection of new light-houses in dangerous localities. The officers of the Customs and Marine department proceed with her. The total imports of the Colony for the quarter ended 31st December were£l, 784, 605; for the corresponding period of 1872 they were £1,498,193. The comparative value of imports for 1872 was £5,142,951 ; and for last year, £6,462,981. The exports for the Colony for 1872 were £5,190,665; for last year they were £5,613,711. February 13th. February 14th. The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company have decided to withdraw the Phoebe from the Sydney and Manukau trade, and again place her in the Interprovincial trade. It is said that the Government have arranged with the above Company for the conveyance, to and from Napier, of the Volunteers for the Colonial Prize Firing. February 16th. The Luna left on Saturday night for a trip around the islands in connection with lighthouse sites. Several officers of the Marine Department are on board, but not Mr Reynolds. She proceeds first to Cape Campbell, Godly Head, Timaru, and Otago Heads, discharging supplies and cargo. In going up the West Coast she will touch at the Southwest Cape, coal at Greymouth, and afterwards visit Westport, where she will be detained while the party proceeds to Cape Foulwind, where a site for a light-house is being cleared. The trip will probably occupy three weeks. It is said that the suspension of the Provincial Auditor is causing serious inconvenience, s through occasional suspension of the Provincial Treasury payments. February 17th. The Railway Committee have appointed a sub-committee to procure data to lay before the Premier, to induce him to place the Thames Valley Line on the next schedule. A movement is organised to endeavour to obtain Government assistance towards the expenses of the deep drainage of mines. A meeting of the promoters will be held this evening. February 13th. Gold has been struck in the Golden Calf mine. 36 ounces of stone contained 30 ounces of gold. The shares are advancing. The mine has been worked four years without paying. Miners are scarce, and an advance in wages is expected. February 16th. Mr Millett's funeral was largely attended by the Masonic body and the Naval Volunteers. The show of gold in the Golden Calf mine is better, and a large parcel has been lodged in the Bank to-day. February 18th. A deputation from the Railway Committee proceed to Auckland to-day, to interview the Premier, and lay before him data urging the construction of the Thames Valley Railway. He will be interviewed to-morrow by appointment. ] Taurakoa, February 18th. The Hon. W. Fox is expected overland from Napier. Ho purposes starting a Good Templar's Lodge. A great Native runanga will be held shortly at Ohinemuri, respecting the land question. Mr Mackay appears on behalf of the Government. Alexandra, February 12th. A great number of natives from Waikato and elsewhere are returning to Tokangamuta to prepare for the meeting. A number are down with wheat for sale, and are receiving 6s a bushel for it. The first section of the Invercargill and Mataura railway has been handed over by Messrs Brogden to the Government.
