The Albion arrived at Hokitika yesterday morning at 2.30. She left Melbourne at 5.30 p.m. on the 14th, and brings 200 tons of cargo, and 120 passengers for all ports. There are one or two items of English news brought by her which are important. We have also an intimation that, though the resignation of Mr Gladstone is not yet confirmed, still circumstances point to the fact that it is almost inevitable. The election returns give a large majority in favour of the Conservatives. Amongst ths members elected is Mr Jenkins, author of " Ginx's Baby." The chief items of Australian news are the following :—: —
