Sir— Your correspondent is, by the nature of his avooation, brought into frequent communication with the children of the poorest class ot this community— children of widows— children whose fathers went long •go to the We*t Coast, and have not been heard of sinoe-(*nd those are very many) —children of desertod wives, and children of mother* who are perhaps not wives. Your correspondent, in reply to his enquiries, is informed by these poor, and m ■ome oases much neglected, Uttle things that they receive no education, " Cos mother ain't got no money to pay the school f and it hat occurred |to your correspondent how areat a pity it is that these poor ohildren should be shut out from the benefits of our undoubtedly exoelient educational establish*it is quite probable that there may be some regulation by which the ohildren of very poor people can reoeivo gratuitous eduoation, bat your oorre»pond«nt is not aware of any saoh re»ul»tion. That, if it does exist, it is not known to the persona most oonwrned, U a faot beyond dispute.
