AUSTRALIAN CARPENTERS.
ANOTHER LARGE PARTY ARRIVES AUCKLAND, Last Night. Another large party of Australian tradesmen arrived at Auckland by the Wanganclla. Among them were 36 carpenters under contract to the Government for its housing scheme. They will mostly be distributed between Whangarei, Hamilton, Palmerston North and New Plymouth. In addition to these men there was also a large number who said they had com-e to New Zealand in the hope of finding work. They included 10 carpenters, three builders’ labourers, two bricklayers, two motor mechanics, one farm labourer and about six clerks and a salesman. All the men were met on arrival by officers of the State Placement Service and those with contracts were told where they were to go. Several of the other skilled men were also offered work immediately. .
