GOVERNMENT’S INDUSTRIALISM AUCKLAND, March 25. “The Government will not stop at small things in the development of institutions similar to the one we are opening to-day,’’ declared the I lime Minister (Mr. Savage) before he officially opened the up-to-date plant research station of the Department of Scientific, and Industrial Research at Mt. Albert in the presence of a large gathering. “In these things we can’t afford to blunder along. Me have to go where •he scientist and teacher point. Other countries are making use of the latest scientific developments, and we must do the same,’’ said Mr. Savage. Referring specifically to plant re search, the Premier said there were some “political pests’’ who were saying that the country could not afford to spend money on this work. In his view, the country could not afford not to spend the money. Plant life played an important part in the economy of any nation, and this was particularly true of New Zealand.
