"SEND-OFF" TO REP. TEAM. The Horowhenua members of the representative (Muuawkemia) team who are-to take part in the hockey tournament at Invercargill were entertained .at afternoon tea at Mrs. Moffatt's prior to their departure ou Wednesday for tho South'. Mr. H. Nicolson, on behalf of the Ladies' Association, extended the best wishes of all to the girls, trusted that' they would have an enjoyable trip and a successful time on the -field of play. He knew that all Iwouhl do their best, and if beaten he felt sure they would not be disgraced. The .team was a good one, and its supporters looked forward to line games, hand'a satisfactory result. Mr. Nicolson, on behalf of the Association, handed a sum of money raised at Parapar&umu for the girls, to Miss Henderson, wdio undertook to distribute it. Mr. S. Parker, chairman of the Association, endorsed the remarks and added that he.- felt sure that every girl would do her best to win the tournament prize. After Wednesday's display of hockey in Wellington, when Horowhenua representatives met the City boys, a return'game is desired, and Wellington team has offered to play a match at Otaki on September 10th. In a hard-fought hockey match at Karori Park on Wednesday afternoon, Wellington beat Otaki by 3 goals to 2. The game, especially in the second i spell, was fast and there were sonic good exhibitions of sliekwork. In the early stages of the game both teams were inclined to overrun the ball, and on several occasions wide shooting spoiled opportunities of scoring. Shortly before . halftime play suddenly went to the Wellington area, Morgan centring, to G. Windley, who took a well-aimed shot at goal. The ball hit. the goalkeeper's pads, only to be deflected into the net. Otaki 1, Wellington .1. Hard Hitting. Wellington attacked in the second spell and it was not long before Lewis ' had sent the ball to Brown, whose shot at- goal was successful. The ball hit the goalie's pads, but glanced off into the net. -. Wellington 2, Otaki 1. Long and hard shots became common, and play was much faster. The ball remained in the Wellington circle, for some time, Wellington ilnallv making a rush to the Otaki goai. Phillpotts missed a good chance of scoring. Browne secured the bait and took a shot at goal, but the ball hit the goalkeeper and rebounded, after which it returned to midfield. It soon went to the Wellington area, where after several attempts lat scoring Otaki netted, G. Windlev seadmg the ball into the goal from "a corner. Otaki 2, Wellington 2. Wellington took the ball to the Otaki area, but met with little success. Another attack was launched and Lewis wuh. a well-aimed shot, scored Welling-ton-'s-third_ goal, Lewis later missed a splendid chance of adding points, and the. game "ended without further score.
