FRACTION OF PENNY BRINGS IN THOUSANDS. Tho u.unual report of the Dairy Produce Board contains the following references to the levy which dairy companies have to find each year:— ' The export levy on butter and cheese for the twelve months yielded £35,672 17a lid, interest from investments amounted to £l4Bl 2s Id, making a itotal income for the year of £40,153 19s 2d. The levy of one-thirty-second of a penny per lb on butter, and one'of a penny per lb cheese has been continued.

In addition there has been expended £10,193.-13 Id on advertising and £I3OO on scientific research, the latter item having been increased by £BOO for the current year. • The Board has felt it necessary to the expenditure of approximately £l-5,000 per annum on advertising, ami whilst this policy is steadily depicting the reserves, it holds the opinion that it is absolutely necessary to make .New Zealand produce more widely known.
