Mrs. Batchelar (.Wellington) is at present on holiday in Otaki. Sir Joseph Ward’s illness took n turn for the worse yesterday, and he is now lying seriously ill. The Hew Zealand Eughy Union last evening appointed Mr. E. McKenzie (Wairarapa) as manager of the All Black team to play Britain in the first test match at Dunedin on June 23rd. Bishop Bennett, who arrived in Botorua on Monday, was suffering from an indisposition. On Tuesday he consulted a doctor, wlio ordered his removal to the King George V Hospital, where an operation was performed yesterday. The latest repprt. is that his condition is quite satisfactory. The death occurred yesterday at Levin of Mr. William Charles Hation, at the age of 91. He was a well-known journalist., and was for many years president of the Hew Zealand Spiritualistic Association. He came to , Hew Zealand in 1837, when his father founded the “Helson Colonist,” and was subsequently engaged in journalism iu the Wairarapa and Manawatu. Mr. Hation was the originator of the Arbour Day celebration in the Dominion. He was deeply interested in psychic phenamenn, and almost up till his death edited, set up. and printed a monthly journal in the interests of spiritualism. «
