♦ A PAEAPABAUMU FUNCTION. A delightful evening was held in th* schoolroom uu .Wed ntsday hi .r in tht I form of a k.itehSn social. The evening was given in honor of Miss Jean Macleazi, who is shortly to be married. The room was prettily decorated with chrysanthemums and belladonna lilies Miss Smiley, the organiser, had the arrangements in splendid order, and proceedings -.vent with a swing, no dull moments being allowed to creep in. Corepetitions of various kind?, were Lel-i. “The Menu,” “An Old-Fe’-hiorei Kitchen,” and “Autographs” causix* endless fun. During the evening Mr G. Sweetman sang “Down the Vale” and “Rote la the Bud.” Miss Beretti sang very pleasingly, her solo being “Absent,” and with Miss Smiley contributed the duet “Life’s Dream i* O’er.” Mi** Doddle Mac-lean recited “Two Little Bears,” and Mis* Addict!! sang “Swallows.” Several trios were played by Miss K. Johnston, Mr D. Sweetman and Mr Hand. The accompanists for the evening were Miss EJol.nster. and Mr Sweetman. After supper much amusement was caused by the opening of the numerous parcel*, ail of which contained some kitchen utensils, together with expression * of goodwill. Mr 'U. Sweetman thanked the company on behalf of Miss Maclean and himself for the valuable presents and the enjoyable evening that bad been provided The gathering concluded with “For They are Jolly Good Fellows,” “Aula Lang Syne.” ais 3 the National Anthem.'
