Education Board.

The following; locai business was transacted 'it the lust meeting of the Board : ' The following-., appointments of teachers "were confirmed : Robert Armstrong, Thorn oury ; VV. Miller, Papatotara ; Lyall 'Townsend, Orawia ; Eva C. .Ferrusr, Drunmiond. . One pupil attending the Opio school was recommended for conveyance allowance The Senior Inspector whs asked to report on the application of the Springbills Committee for xhv supply of two blackboards, and of the application from Aparima for the supply of one blackboard. The architect was instructed to supply Oroti Plains, school with three new blinds, and Nightcaps with twelve wall blackboards, to arrange tor the. supply of 90 feet of wall blackboard at Thornbury School, to] report on the application of the Springhills Committee for an addition and repairs to teacher's residence, to supply Grain school .with one dual desk, to prepare plans for the election of anew school building at Wairio, and to arrange for the erection of a fence m front of the residence ak Fairfax. Communications from the Education Department, Wellington, intimating that a. grant of £950 for the erection of a icacher's residence at Obai had been authorised, and from the.Etalvale Committee, guaranteeing the teacher a salary 'of £75 per annum and free board and lodgings for tho household school there, were received. .

The following resolutions were adopted : That' the Ohai Committee be informed that it is receiving the allowance provided for m the Education Act : that Mrs Coster, Waikouro, be informed that there is no legal liability resting on it m respect of the accident to her son.

The offer of the Department to supply free song books *to the pupils of Standards 5 and ' 6 all m schools over grade 2 was accepted.

A Commission consisting of the Chair mac, Secretary , and Mr Jones was appointed to select the new school site at Wairio.

The Secretary was instructed to write to the Department and ascertain whether any decision had been reached regarding the Board's applicatian for grants, for works at Otautau and Winton.

The following resolutions were adopted : That 'the communication from Scotts Gap regarding vehicles on school grounds and consolidation of schools be Referred to a committee ; that the Limestone Plains Hall Commit tea letter regarding rent for school purposes be received and the Committee be advised of the position, and a copy\ of its letter sent to the Department.
