Soldiers' Memorial.

The meeting called for last Wednesday evening to consider this master was attended by fifteen persons. The disappointing attendance was partly attributable to the doubt that existed, that the meeting might not bo open to others than those appointed on the Committee on 7th November last. Show Catering. — The Secretary re r ported that the Red Cross had decided not to carry this out on behalf of that Society. He pointed out thero were real possibilities of raising a substantial sum for the Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Fund if the business was taken up enthusiastically. There was a decided tendency to let a "slump" take place m patriotio fervour. It would be a shameful thing if now our soldiers had done so muoh for us and freed the world from military despotism, we were mean enough to drop all effort before raising a sufficient sum to erect a lasting monument to the memory of those who had given their lives. Af. er disoufesion it was resolved The Soldiers' Momorul Committee take the catering contract on, and that the canvassing Committee appointed on 7th November be asked to get busy collecting the goods necessary ; that Messrs W. J. Wesney Convenor), R. Scatter, L. J. Brown, 1\ Beggs, P. Brown and J. Flett, with Mosdames T. H. Cupples, A Harrington and Miss Webb be appointed a Committee to arrange for cooking the food and for helpers Tat preparations and serving ; that \ Mr Flett and Mrs j Cupples draw up schedules of quantities cf food and material required, and that the publio be asked to send m supplies of oggs, butter, potatoes, and ham at once and later on pickles, jam, vegetables and cakes. It was decided that the Memorial Committee meet on Thursday, 30th January, at 8 p.m. m tho Board Room to draw up a scheme for collecting funds for the Mem T orial, and consider the form bf Memorial. The Committee, m accordance with the resolution passed at the public meeting on 7th Novembor, comprises the following : — Messrs R. Scatter (Town Board), L. Cody andG. Kelly (County Council), W.
