Otautau Town Board.

This Board sat on Monday evening when their were present Messrs E. Matheson (chairman), Brass, Scatter, Georgeson, Harrington and Liddell. The notice of motion that rates for the ensuing 12 months be 3d m the £ on unimproved value for the general rate, 3-10 d m the £ for the H and C.A. Board and 9-10 d m the £ for the special rate was carried. The notice of motion was carried that the rates for the sanitary service be : Quarterly service, 6/- per annum, Monthly 15/-, Three Weekly 20/-, Fortnightly 25/-, Weekly 45/-. A letter from W. G. Tait, Solicitor, Invercargill, regarding rates charged to D. A. Mclvor was held over m the meantime. The Seoretary of the Recreation Ground Improvements Committee, asked the Board -f to continue with the funds at its disposal ■ the further improving of the Recreation ' Ground. — A Sub-committee of Mes«rs Liddell and Stevens were appointed to work '■fit}-' the Improvements Committee. Bj. Ifqrd complained of the state of "f^ulme St.— rlt was agreed to instruct tl*je surfacerow to grade the road olean out the water tables, and put down 2Q loads of gravel, and that Messrs Bird Bros., Ltd., be asked to pay for 10 loads of this gravel as the work of raising the tramway had contributed to some extent towards making this road m such a bad state, The Seoretary of the Otautau Branch of the Southland League invited members to a seat on the platform at the Patriotic Meeting to be held on Thursday firsfc. The invitation was acoepted and the Committee thanked for the invitation. G. E. Robertson complained of the Btate of the footpath gravelled where neoessary. The Dog Tax Collector reported being unsuceßßful m getting the taxes from several residents. It was agreed that the defaulters be given a fortnight m whioh to register failing whioh they are to be summoned. It was decided that the surfaceman gravel part cf Knutsford Street where required ; also Soren St. from Clitheroe St. to Hulme St. to be made level Accounts amounting to £87 16s 4d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
