■—■ ■ » On Saturday evening, the membsrs of the Otautau Brass Band met for the purpose of bidding good-bye to Mr W. Mockler, who left yesterday on a six months' holiday to the/ Old Country. Mr Mockler was an enthusiastic member of the Band, and it was deemed fitting that his services should be recognised by. making him a small presentation, and as a token bf the esteem in which he is held. Mr Nickells (conductor), in a few well chosen words, on behalf of the members, handed Mr Mockler a morocco cigarette case, suitably inscribed, and a mother of pearl cigar and cigar* ette holder. Mr King (late Bandmaster) explained that the function "had been hurriedly got up, and they had to make the best of tbe timn at their disposal. Mr Mockler had been a good member, and had been one of his main supports while he was in charge of the Band. He wished the guest bon voyage, and hoped that when he returned, he would take the same interest in the Band as he had hitherto done-. These remarks were supplemented by several other members. Mr Mockler, in replying, thanked the members for their gifts, and said he was greatly indebted to Mr King for much of his tuition. He had not been very long under Mr Nickells, but he felt certair he was a good conductor, and was the right mon in the right place. The guest's health having been drunk, " Auld Lang Syne " was sung, 9-nd the gathering dispersed. On the eve of his departure, Mr Brooker and his employees met Mr Mockler and made him the recipient of a sovereign case as a small token ■ of esteem. In making the presentation, Mr Brooker referred to Mr Mocliler's industry and attention io his work during his three and a half year's connection with the firm. He wished him bon voyaga and trusted he would return to Otautau when hia trip was over. Mr Mockler suitably returned thanks.
