Mr Salmon, the doaf evangelist, will preach in the Town Hall on Sunday evening at 7 o'clook, and will conduct an open-air service for half-an-hout prior to that. The anniversary services in connection with the Otautau Methodist Church will be held on Sunday, 23rd inst., and there will be a sooial on the following Wednesday in the Town Hall. The Assessment Court for Wairio Riding will sit in the new Courthouse, Otautau tomorrow, and will be presided over by Mr GK Cruicksbanks, S.M. The Tennis Dance to-morrow night promises to be a great success, and as quite a large number of tickets have been sold there will be a good attendance. Refreshments and music are in capable hands, and a delightful time is expeoted. The Rev. H: H. Barton will address f,he combined Bible Classes next Sunday in the Presbyterian Church hall at 3 o'olook. All members of both classes are asked to be in attendance, and each to bring a friend. Mr Barton will conduct both church services on the sjime.date. Mr J. Grey, Kinlooh, lost a valuable bull last week. The animal had been mißsing for several days, and when discovered hung up in a wire fence had one leg broken, and had to be shot. - -a Mrß. G. James, Aparima, has been unfortunate enough to lose a considerable number of his lambs during the past fortnight No apparent cause could be detected, and so far the veterinary surgeon who has been ini vestigating the case has not succeeded in locating the trouble. The loss is a serious one, as over 50 lambs have already died. The ladies who are working for the Bowl 1 ing and Tennis bazaar meet in the Stakdaf.d Buildings to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock for their first working bee. A big atI tendance is expected, and judging by tha enthusiasm of members a lot of work will be accomplished. The Otautau Debating Society meetg on Friday evening to receiva balance-sheet/elect officers and determine opening night. As the Society has a small balance on hand from last year the wish has been expressed to inaugurate the present session with some social function. A good muster of members will be appreciated. Boy.V school suits wili wear out ; the boys' suits that wear the longest, and are therefore the cheapest, are to be had from the New Zealand Clothing Factory, Dee street, Invercargill ; they are nob made of leather, bat they wear like leather. A party consisting of Messrs J. Parmenter, H. Holt (Otautau), J. Byan (Bayswater), W« J. McGregor (Mount Linfon), C. Lambie (Bannoch) and J. King (Clifden) went on a fishing excursion to Bluecliffs beyond the Waiau last week, and netted about 100 prime flounders. The party got nighted, and missing the hut camped under the stars rolled up in rugs, horse covers, etc. With a big pie in the centre of the group, the members of the party profess various degrees of comfort ; however, whatever the night the fiahing sport was Al. Mr A. C. Bowe, an ex-pupil of the Otautaa school, and son of the late Mr W, A: Rowe who has for the past two years been a pupil teacher in the North Invercargill school, and who gai.ied his D certificate at the end of last year, has been appointed head teaoher of Ardlussa school, was presented by the teachers and pupils of the North Invercargill school with a handsome travelling bag. Mr Rowe left to take up his new duties yesterday. The many friends of Mr J. J. Newton, for so long member for the Wairio Bidiog in the Wallace County Council, will regret to learn of his severe illness. Mr Newton had not been feeling well even before he severed his connection with the CounGil, but gave no special attention to the symptoms ; since then, however, he has been very ill. The trouble is an internal complaint, but under the care of Dr Trotter, his medical adviser, Mr Newton is hopeful that he will soon be on the mend. Mr. J. T. Brooker, merchant tailor, is removing into his new premises situated in Harrington's Buildings, tomorrow.
