ENGINEER'S REPORT UNIT GENERATION Mr. W. M. E. Mirams (Electrical Engineer) reported for October as follows : Power Supply This has been satisfactory during October. On tlie 2nd. of the month there was a general shutdown at the request of the State Hydro-electric Department. Opportunity was taken of this to do some line work. Units generated in the power house were Hydro 167,301 and diesel 255, a" total of 167,616 units. This, though satisfactory considering the water available, is, nevertheless, a large drop in hvdro units "on the corresponding month last year, being 20 per cent less. The. total units generated and purchased for the month \s 831,596, an apparent decrease of 21.040 units though it is probable there has been an actual increase of about 6 to 8 per cent over the full amount, as compared with last year. Though the Board was over its allocation at the beginning of the mouth, the warmer weather and lack of rain reduced the demand and for the later weeks the Board was below its allocation. Drtributicn and Maintenance High Tension Extensions: A 50 chain high tension extension on the Watino Road was completed and livened up to improve supply on this road and a 33 chain high tension extension was completed and livened on Upper Waiteika Road. High tension maintenance and alteration work was carried out on a number of feeders. L.T. Extensions: A new 22 chain 3 phase line was run in to Puniho Pa to replace the existing single phase line which was overloaded. Several L.T. maintenance and alterations were also effected. 5 new services were run. Service Maintenance: Several defective pole fuses were replaced and service line and consumer service work was attended to. Several transformers were replaced, a new one installed. Four transformers which were brought in for overhaul were completely reconditioned Transformer and Low Tension Distribution Survey : The whole of the Pihama, Oeo, Awatuna and Eltham Road area, up to and including Thaia Road has now been covered. The connected load on all transformers has been checked and the distribution of the loads on the low tension lines lias been ascertained. The lids have been removed for inspection from all transformers in this area; the general condition and the oil level in them has been noted and at least two which were in danger of breakdown, one from overloading arrd another from a punctured lid, have been replaced, as have others which, were in poor condition. Installations and Inspections: 46 permits for wiring work were issued, 52 inspections carried out, 43 meters were tested, 35 meters were installed, one was changed and one removed. One time-switch was installed. 7 reinspections were carried out, 5 being hazardous and 2 noil hazardous. 19 re-inspections were ieturned, 3 faulty services were (Continued foot previous column)
