OBITUARY

MR. T. W. RAVEN PIONEER .FARMER The death las occurred of Mr. T. W. Raven, a pioneer farmer in the Newall Road district, Okato, who was a director of the Newall Dairy Company for 26 years until his retirement at the last annual meeting. He w r as 66 years of age. As a breeder of pedigree Jersey cattle, 30 years ago Mr. Raven introduced liigh-produc ing stock into his dairy herd, and these have played an important part in building up the herds in the district. Since he arrived in the district about 1908 he had transformed a partially bush-covered area‘into good sheep and cattle pasture. A hush fire destroyed his original home and he rebuilt it on the Okahn Road.

Mr. Haven did yeomen service in the community, being a member of the Ne\yall School Committee when that meant clearing the land of scrub to obtain a building* site. He was a staunch member of the Legion of Frontiersmen during the First World War and a Home Guardsman during the second. He is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters.
