At the third reading of station* at the Methodist Conference held at Christchurch yesterday morning, the Rev. R. E. Fordyce was appointed to Fort Albert and the Rev. C. Lucas to Opunake. - Awards made by Massey Agricultural College for 194 T include the Sir James Wilson medal (for the leading student in the sheepfarming course) to M. A. Waller (Auckland), and a Diploma in Agriculture (sheepl'armmg option) to W. E. Fell (Ohoeawai, Bay of Islands.)

Mr. S. Hutchen was elected to vacancy on the Opunake Electric Power Board at Tuesday’s meeting of the./Opnnake Borough Council. Mr. R. B, Croke was nominated for the vacancy on the Taranaki Hospital Board, (The agreement of Borough and County Council sub-Committees on the nomination is required before the appointment becomes official). Mr. E. F. McElwain, B. Agr. Sc., of Waiuku, who graduated at Massey Agricultural College, left New Zealand last week for Wye College, Kent, England, where he has accepted an appointment under Professor M. McG. Cooper, formerly of the lecturing staff of Massey College. Mr. McElwain was a student at the College until the end of last year, and for two years was president of the Student’s Association. He ha., accepted the English appointment with a view to gaining first-hand experience of. agrculture in overseas countries.

Reference to the late A. J. Brennan’s fine public-spirited-ness during a long and eventful 'term of service to the community was made by the Mayor, Mr. R. H. Hughson and Councillors at Tuesday’s meeting and the following resolution was passed: “That this Council place on record its sense of 'the great loss sustained by this Borough bv the recent death of Mr. A. J. Brennan, and also its recognition of the great service rendered by him to the Borough during his .life long residence in Opunake and in particular in so far as this Council is directly concerned during the period he was a Commissioner oh' the Opunake Town Board .from T 924 to 1938, as Chairman from 1929 to 1938 and as Mayor of the newly constituted Borough from 1938 to 1941, aud further that the deep and heartfelt sympathy of the Council he tendered to Mrs. Brennan and family in their great sorrow.”
