SHORT SESSION HEAYY JRAFFIC CASE Messrs. G, C. Clouston and G. Hammond, J's.P. presided at a short sitting of the Opunake Court yesterday morning. A charge of operating a motor lorry without a heavy traffic licence was preferred against William Alfred Pope, (Mr. D. Clement), Te Kiri, by 'the Senior Traffic Inspector, Mr. 11. S. Gardiner. The license fee had been paid the day after the inspector had stopped the truck, which was driven by defendant's son. Mr. Clement, agreed with the evidence submitted by the inspector, adding Chat defendant, who usually attended to such matters as the renewal of licenses, was called away suddenly to the South Island to attend his mother during lier illness and had overlooked the matter. Convicted and fined £l, costs 10/-.. Civil Claims Two civil claims were dealt with and judgement for plaintiff by default was entered in each of the following cases: Opunake Electric Power Board (Mr. A. D. L. Mac Lean) v. W. 0. Bigger, M, costs £l-7-6; Wai (Mr. D Clement) v. J. L. Weedon, £l4-11-9, costs £3-8-0.
