PRESIDENT’S REPORT

PLUNKET SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL YEAH The President of the Opunake Plunked Society, Mrs. J. A. Stevenson, submitted the following Annual Report at the meeting held last Thursday: . The Committee of the Opunake Branch of the Society for the Health of Women and Childicn has much pleasure in presenting its report for the year 1947 and is pleased to recbrd a year of steady progress. During the year our Nurse, Miss Drayton, resigned to accept a position on the staff of Karitaue, Dunedin. We congratulate her on being chosen for such important work. Losing her. service was a serious blow to Opunake Brandi and m the four SubBranches. Consequently we have been without a nurse since the end of January, however, the committee are greatly indebted to the Pluuket Aides who regularly gave their time to weigh babies at the rooms. We regret that Mesdames J. D. Conn glen and P. S. Riley found it necessary to resign, and the thanks of the committee go to them for their loyal service for many years. The committee were fortunate to have with them at our last Annual Meeting, Miss Henderson, Matron of the New Plymouth Hospital, who gave an interesting and valuable talk on the care of the Pre-School child. Equally appreciated was a visit from Miss.Lusk, Nursing Adviser to the ' Society, when many problems in connection with our work were discussed and ' questions’ answered. Our house to house canvass, combined with a Street Stall, was very successful, the sum of £220 being most gratifying.

In conclusion avc aaTsli to thank the Sub-Branch Committees for their help and co-operation, to those avlio extend hospitality to the Plunket Nyirses, to Nurse Drayton for her splendid work, the Advisory Board, the Hon. Solicitor Mr. Fouhy, Opunake Motors, the Borough Council, the Press and the Public for their help at all times.
