PROVINCIAL BAROMETER
CENTRAL LEADING TOTAL OVER £3,500 The provincial barometer for last week gave Central pride of place, Miss.B. Morton, Elthara, being the ruling queen with 87,000 votes. Miss Alison Mead, Coastal was second with over 80,000 votes, with Miss L. Locke (North) and South next. The votes recorded represent over £3,500 but it is known that moneys being held by the various committees would swell tbe figures to the target of £SOOO. All surplus proceeds will be shared among- the 16 Senior Clubs, and for that reason greater general support from the pub lie is anticipated in the final 10 days of the carnival. CARNIVAL FUNCTIONS Further successful carnival functions were held during the week-end, the house party at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. Burton drawing a large attendance of supporters apd a very pleasant evening was enjoyed bv all present. Games and competitions were well patronised. A gala night at the Oaonui Hall also attracted a big attendance and a good programme of games and competitions also proved very popular, A table tennis tournament was won by Mr. H. Yep. Coming Events There is a fairly full programme for the next 10 days and the local committee hopes for increased support from the general public as all proceeds from now on will go to the various clubs, Hie goal of £5,000 having already been achieved.
