BUTTERFAT INCREASE

CHAIRMAN’S REMAR KS The intake of butterfat for cheesemaking showed an increase of 9i per cent,, whey butter increased by 3 per cent., while fat for creamery buttermaking decreased by 14 per cent., stated the chairman of directors, Mr. J. S. Tosland, at the annual meeting of the Pihama Co-operative Dairy Company at the Pihama hall on Saturday. The total butterfat handled for all purposes increased by 39,9561 b., or almost 3 per cent, on the previous season. Votes of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr, A. W. Wan, Mr. D. D. O’Sullivan, Mrs. D. Harrop, Mr. C. Keighley, to the Pollock family and to Mr. J. S. Tosland in the loss of his sister, were passed, all present standing in silence. The cheese made for the season increased by 94 tons to 1,101 tons, 13 cwt, Mr. Tosland said. “The company crates of cheese, as against 13,772 the previous season. The creamery butter ipade showed a decrease of 21 tons 4 cavl, but the make of whey butter increased by 3 tons 11 cwt over the total for the previous season. The total tonnage of whey and creamery butter manufactured was 2314, as against 249 tons for the previous season. The directors were authorised to hold a function to mark the company’s golden jubilee, which would fall this year, Mr. Tosland said. Hickey, chairman of the Ihaia Road Dairy Company, presided at the Annual meeting which was held last Thursday. The chairman in moving a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr., D, Mourie and Mr. D. D. O’Sullivan, stated that both were foundation members of the cgmpany, and took a leading -part in the early establishment of the factory. Mr. Mourie was a director for 20 years. A creditable increase in the butterfat intake for the past season of 6.7 per cent, and an increase of 21j tons of cheese were reported by Mr. Hickey. 4,8(2 crates were exported against 569 the previous season. 1,763 crates or 36 per cent, were graded finest, 1,901 crates or 39 percent. were at Basic Price. £6O above guaranteed price was received for, the season. Farm and Farm Wage costs were also- detailed in the report and in his review of the balance sheet, the chairman revealed that the total payout, including interest on shares would be 24.0281 d which he considered very good.
