LARGE ATTENDANCE HEADMASTER'S ADDRESS Mr. E. Pickering' presided over a good attendance of parents and citizens at the meeting held in the .Drill Hall on Tuesday, 29th 'mst. A short and much appreciated musical and vocal programme was provided by Mrs. It. H. Hughson, Mrs. Trotter, Mrs. A. N. McGaughey, Miss N. Piecke and Messrs. D. Wilkinson and K. M. Hepburn, 8.A., Mr. W. D. Richards being the accompanist At the request of the President, the Secretary, Rev. R. E. Fordyce extended a very cordial welcome to Mr. F. J. McLaughlin, 8.A., headmaster of the Opunake District High School, assuring him of the cooperation of the Home and School Association in his plans for the benefit of the children and.the school. Mr. McLaughlin expressed his -thanks to Mr. Fordyce for the welcome expressed on behalf of the Association. The topic of his address (see page 1) was largely an appeal to the parents _to assist in the work of supplying the material needs for the education of their children. .He wanted them to.. know that he was fully aware of the splendid efforts already made in this direction.

After the address which ■ was attentively listened to, and greatly appreciated, a discussion took place, and information was given on aspects of school work, Mr. D. M. Jillett, B.Coni., contributing very helpfully and suggesting ways in which parents can assist trieir children with their lessons especially in such things as tables and spelling. Supper was served by the Committee, after which a brief meeting of the Committee was held, the secretary being appointed to represent the Association at the meeting of the Federation in New Plymouth on July 30th.
