rate ingreaße 1*& grants~approved Estimates considered by the Opunake Borough Council on Wednesday Evening showed that it would be necessary to increase the Consolidated Kate by J|d-in the £ on the unimproved value, and the Sanitation Levy to £2 per service. There was a full attendance of Councillors,, the Mayor Mr. G. C, Clouston presiding. . The General rate was increased from 6£d to 9d in tne £, which is expected to produce £1930. The hospital rate", through the stabilisation at .5d on the capital value, was reduced from to 2|d in the £ on the unimproved value. This rate is necessary to meet the contributions payable to the Taranaki Hospital Board which for this year anicAmt to £506-9-0. Through increased costs it was found necessary to raise: the sanitation levy from 30/-' to £2 per service. The Harbour rate will be the same as last year, i.e. 1.5-16 d in the Borough and 7-16 din the county area, both on the capital value. These two rates are mainly for loan charges and are expected to produce £2960. The Council will meet on July 15th to formally make and levy these rates. The Rate demands will be issued on July 16th. Grants Approved The following grants were approved : Opunake Public Library Committee. £35; The Opunake Municipal Volunteer Fire Brigade, £10; Opunake Tennis Club, £ls.
