JULY MEETING

Tlie July meeting of the next-of-kin club was held on July 21, when there was a record attendance of over 60. Visitors were present from New Plymouth, Eahotu, Oaouui and Pihama.* Community singing led by Mrs. Des Forges with Mrs. Hickman at the piano was much enjoyed. An entertaining oneact play entitled “I’m sorry it’s out” was well produced by members of the Opunake, Institute Dramatic Circle. Those taking part being Mesdames E. llughson, Bullard, C. _ Clare, Bailey, McMillan, Miss Q. Sinclair-, and Nance Bailey.

A feature of interest during tlie afternoon was the tiled Cross signature quilt which is to _he sent to a New Zealand Hospital shin, and many of those present handed in signatures to be worked on a second quilt now being made.

Potog'raphs, letters } and souveniors were exchanged, some particularly interesting gifts being shown by Mrs. Bufrnand, Pihama. whose son is with a desert patrol in T-iybia his souvenirs consisting of snake skins cushions of leopard and snake skins, and native daggers being quite unique. A dainty afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Clare and Sisley. A competition was won by Mrs. Pitehie, the prize for this fa cift f<*r a soldier’s parcel) being o-i’-en by Mrs. McCullum. The programme was arranged by Mesdames Bailey and Hughson.

Congregations’ Invitation. — At. 1 lie Annual Meeting of the Presbyterian Church which was held last Friday, the congregation were unanimous in expressing their appreciation .of the services of the Minister, the Hev. G. Wood, who has held that position since May, 1934, and extended. to him an invitation to continue his services with the Church for the ensuing year, commencing from January. 1942
