VISIT OF MR. THORN EXPEDIENCE OF CAMPAIGN His principal mission the discussion with members of the pronosed establishment of Labour daily newspapers, Mr. J. Thorn, M.P. for Thames, addressed a meeting of Labour supporters in the Masonic Hall on Saturday when h.e visited Opunake in the course of a Taranaki tour. Mr. H. J. Drabble, president of the Egmonit L.Pi.C, presided. In an address which lasted two hours, Mr. Thorn recounted interesting and humorous experiences of the early efforts to found the political party in Christehurch. There, the speaker was one of the first candidates, and was soundly defeated •it the noils, as also was Mr. (now the Hon.) D. G. Sullivan, who lost his deposit. Touching on politics, Mr. Thorn alleged that an attempt was now being made to "monkey" with the exchange rates in order to discredit the New Zealand loan in the London market. Mr. Thorn was thanked for his address in a motion proposed by Mr. A. McDonald and heartily a dented, and a similar vote was accorded the ladies for providing supper.
