Week of Achievement.— Wednesday of this, week is to he regarded as an historic occasion in. local affairs, for it saw the inauguration of two valuable movements. One was the formation of a hoekey clnb, which has developed some keen interest, and the other is a progressive movement towards the establishment of a-military training unit in Opnnake, recruits for the pro* nosed infantry platoon having hee.n interviewed by Defence Ijoague officials, - Rain Holds Off.— Only a light sprinkling of rain, hardly sufficient to dam]>on the soil, was the outcome of threatening conditions which developed on Tuesday. General anticipations were for a heavy downpour, hut this was not forthcoming, and the weather again cleared yesterday. There was, however, a distinct change in temperatures, and very cool conditions operated on Wednesday. Intending holiday-makers are keenly awaiting an indication of likely weather conditions for the Easter season, and present signs point to fine? weather.
