Leading over the greater part of the distance, R. liickey swam a great race in the annual lake evqnt last night to add the E. Hurst Cup to the Brown Cup, a trophy for a similar contest, competitors faced the start-

Hickey (100 secs.) went into the lead to hold this advantage to the finishing line, where he was 10 yards ahead of the next swimmer. C. K. de Castro, last year’s winner, was not among the first five home.
The official result was: K. Hickey (100 sees.) 3. Glliver (120 secs.) 2, C. McKenzie (100 sees.) 3, G. Byars t 65 secs.) 4, ■l. Dudley (scr.) 5. Won by ten yards, time 8 mins. 8 secs. Other results were; Boys’ under 11 years, 25 yards; J. Shields 1, T. Pope 2. Don Humphries 3.
Boys, under 13 years, 26 yards: TL Shields 1, P. Parker and J. Snell (dead-beat) 2. Girls under 13 years, 25 yards: E. Sharrock 1, J. Taylor 2, D. Humphries 3.
Boys’ championship, 50 yards: A. McKenzie 1, I. Elgar 2, G. McKenzie 3. Time 1 min. 1 sec. Boys’ diving: J. Shields 1, 1. Elgar 2, H. Shields 3. Prizes were provided from a fund to which townspeople generously subscribed. Officials con-
