EVENTS FOR THE WEEK

BEACH GALA FINALE

Until come to an •slid with a beach gala on Saturday next, sportino 1 interests, in this district will be well served with events connected with the fitness campaign. There is a function to engage the attention «very day of the week, and interest is running high. Tomorrow evening;, it will be athletic sports which will be introduced into the public eye, an augmented meeting at the Domain having been arranged. Ac•juatie sport takes its place on Thursday, when there will be an evening competition at the lake organised by the Surf Club. A «ide variety of events is included on the programme, and there ia special provision for children The Hurst Cup lake swim will be the principal event. Friday will be occupied with the county schools sports at the Domain and, as juvenile competition rarely fails to attract, it may be anticipated that this fixture will have strong public support. The campaign finale at the beach will be one worthy of the occasion, and its object, namely the raising of funds, for the benefit of the school, will be favour-

nbly regarded by all. Arrangements for the event were placed well under way at a meeting of lady supporters yesterday, Rev. G. Wood, chairman of the school committee, presiding over a good attendance. The assistance of country residents whose children attend at Opunake in supplying milk is to be sought. A free bus for children at the Opuit and Arawhata roads is to be provided. Appreciation of the action of members of the Seaside Society in offering thenservices, in connection with the event was expr ged.
