Bowling at Kaponga.— Opiuiake was represented at the opening of the above club on Saturday last when over CO enthusiasts from all parts of Taranaki assembled to join in the ceremony which was ;on.lueted by Mr W. G. Cran. Mr F. Julian on behalf of the Taranaki Centre wished the club a successful year.

A local factory on Saturday last effected a sale of cheese up to the end of November make at 6d. This is cheerful news as the price is well ahead of anything oii'ered at the same period last year. Alteration of Date.—

Card players are advised of the change of date in the final Catholic euchre party which is now to be held on Friday, November Ist. Good prizes are offered and after supper a dance will be held.

Chain up the Dog.— The mountain road race will take place on Saturday next and owners of dogs are requested to keep them off the streets and thus save the riders any undue c oncern and possible accident when passing through the town. Footballers’ Mart. —

A street mart will be held next Saturday in aid of the Football Club. Donations of produce, cookery etc., will be gratefully received. Buy your week-end needs here. Fresh vegetables, jams, preserves, cakes, etc., on sale. Final Crib Party.— It is anticipated that a record crowd will be present at the above card party to-night whieh is the last of the season to beheld by the Bowling Club. A special supper ivill be provided at the conclusion of the games and the points prize will be awarded. The Tennis Season. —

On Monday next the local club will officially opens its courts and invitations have been issued to members of neighbouring clubs to attend. The competitions will take the form of a yankee tournament and play will commence at 11 o’clock. The public is invited to attend and provided the weather is up to the mark, a big attendance is assured.

One-day Tourney.— On Labour Day «a bowling tournament will be held on the local green and all wishing to enter a rink are requested to acquaint the secretary as early a« possible. There is accommodation for 1G rinks and eveiything points to a very successful fixture. Bowlers and all interested are reminded that the opening day will take place at 2 o’clock to-morrow. Jubilee Fair.—

The Presbyterians in Opunake are few in number, nevertheless they cheerfully contribute to all the various schemes arranged in the town to raise funds. The church carries on with difficulty financially and periodically nas to appeal to the wider public to enable it to meet its obligations. No large undertakings are be ug planned but the usual routine of holding small functions Lom time to time is being adhered to. The church takes its share of public responsibility and is worthy of a share of public support. tome to the Fair and help when you are there.
