SUCCESSFUL AFTERNOON GOOD LIFT TO THE FUND On Friday, July 13th., an afterlioon in aid of the Methodist Mayoral contest funds and particularly for the furtherance of the candidature of Opunake's representative, was given at the residence of Mrs C. A. Smith, in Jiing Street. The guests arrived in good numbers and the space availably was hard put to it to accommodate them, but it was very pleasing to the hostess and also to the local committee to have the support so. freely accorded them. Items, games and competitions kept the gathering entertained, everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves, and the fund will receive a good lift as a result.

A HAPPY EVENING

A very happy time was spent by .'.ll who were present at the social evening at the residence of Mi and Mrs C. N. Thayer, on Tucclay evening, when many new and fascinating games ?ud competitions were enjoyed. Mr Thayer (mayor elect) in the mayoral contest, was in charge of the programme and there was not a dull moment during the evening. Mrs Thayer made an excellent hostess, and had everything well prepared, including a Specially dainty supper. Mis A. R. Penn thanked the host and hostess for organising the very pleasant evening and musical honours were accorded. Position of Candidates.

At a count taken at 5 p.m. on Thursday the position of the candidates was as follows: — OPUNAKE (C. N. Thayer) 3211 Votes. RAHOTU (A. Hamill) 3017 Votes OKATO (A. J. Smith) 2021 Votes.
