OBITUARY

MRS. R. D. BROPHY AGED 63 YEARS It is with feelings of genuine regret that we chronicle the death of a highly esteemed resident in the person of Mrs Rebecca Dorothea Brophy, which took place at her residence on the South Road on Wednesday morning. Loved by a very wide circle of

friends, she will be sadly missed by many'who had always looked oil her as the friend in need when sickness or trouble was prevalent. She was ever ready to minister in such cases and her kindly nature and abundant charity at all times was ever in the ascendant. The late lady was born in Taaraimaka, and has lived in Taranaki all her life, having lived in this district for 25 years. She was a member of the Opunake Hospital committee when it was inaugurated and also an active member of the Women's Institute. In matters pertaining _ to the Church, she was recognised as a cheerful and conscientious worker. Her husband, Mr Martin Brophy, died in 1930. Those left to mourn the loss of a devoted mother and relative are her son (Marcus), one brother, (Mr W. Lawn, of Warea), and two sisters (Mrs L. Luckin, of Inglewood, and Mrs W Salmon, of Eltham). Another sister, Mrs Thompson, of Inglewood, died about four weeks ago. The residents throughout the whole district will join us in extending to the sorrowing ' relatives our heartfelt sympathy in their <ireat loss. The funeral will take place this afternoon leaving the Catholic "Church for the Opunake Cemetery, at 1.30 o'clock. MISS E. J. HICKEY The death occurred at New Plymouth on Monday, of Miss Elsie Josephine Hickey', only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J. M. Hickey, at the early age of 42 years. Until the death of her mother, who was an invalid, Miss Hickey devoted the past twenty years to nursing her. She is survived by four brothers, Messrs D. J., B. and M. Hickey.
