Street Mart.— A street mart will be held on Monday next in aid of the "Star of Naumai" Lodge (1.0.0. E.)
Hail for Sale.— The Loan and Mercantile hall at the corner of Napier and Domett Streets is advertised for sale. Lost Wallet.— A reward is offered for the return of a wallet that was lost on Saturday. Bargain Sale.— Messrs Hughson*s Ltd., wish to notify big bargains to readers oi their' advertisement in another column on this page. Beautiful Scenery.— Some of the scenes in the picture to-morrow night are particularly fine and even from a scenic point of view "Robbers' Roost'' is well worth the money. A Western Thriller.— The programme to-morrow and Thursday will bring two great actors before (he public in Zane Grey's "Robbers' Roost," a real outdoors him. Everything in the film is true to life and the sounds are most realistic. Excursions on Sunday.— Two special trains will be engaged to convey the excursionists to the Opunake beach on Sunday next. The local band will be out in full force to provide a programme which will be much appreciated.
Planting of Trees.— An otter to supply free up to 2000 trees for planting in and around Opunake was received at the meeting of the Seaside Improvement Society on Friday night. It was unanimously decided to accept the offer and the trees will be planted out next June.
Loud Speakers Popular.— During the holidays, a local electrician erected a loud speaker at the beach when holiday makers were provided with a splendid programme of music and all the latest news. The novel idea was much appreciated by visitors and residents.
Swings for Kiddies. — Owing to ii great deal of preparatory work being necessary for the erection af eight swings for children at the beach, the committee in charge of this work have informed us that it was impossible to have them ready for Xmas. In the course of a few days they will be completed.
Race day on Saturday.— The Opunake Racing Club will hold the annual meeting on March 17 which this year falls on a Saturday. This should tend to considerably swell the attendance, for in the 7xlst, many Taranaki facing enthusiasts have been debarred from attending owing to the meeting falling on an off day.
Rain Welcome. — The warm light rain which commenced to fall on Friday night was very welcome to most farmers although a few who left their harvesting late were caught napping. It is usual for us to be experiencing very dr~ weather at this time of the year and quite unusual for all the tanks to be full.
Ccming Entertainment. — Practices are commencing in connection with the variety entertainment which Mrs Malcolm is organising, proceeds of which are to benefit the Surf Club and Seaside Society. We have eA'ery reason to believe that the function will be an outstanding success for many novel features will be introduced which should appeal to all.
Boys Will be Boys.— A fruit motor vehicle drew up alongside a busy crowd. The owner dismounted and was soon engaged in a friendly discussion. Two small boys saw their opportunity—and no opportunity is more"quickly availed of by small boys than when "it is apples." Quickly and stealthily they took an apple apiece and retired to enjoy it. whilst the owner enjoyed the discussion.
