SCOUTS MELBOURNE CENTENAKY Although the Australian Jamboree to be held at a seaside resort called Tiankstou, near Melbourne, iroin Thursday, 2,tih Hecember, 11M±, to Thursday, lUth January, 1930, is a lung way 01l yet considerable interest has been evinced by Scouters and Scouts in a large number ol countries to which information has been despatched telling of the plans ior holding this grand gathering- of the international brotherhood. In our first news bulletin to you we were not in a position to announce definitely where the great camp would be located, but since then our various committees-have been diligently at work and their efforts have been crowned with splendid success. A beautifully situated camping ground of three hundred acres of pleasantly timbered country has been secured at one of Australia's most celebrated seaside resorts. The location combines the peculiar charm of the Australian "bush" with the multifarious delights of a vast expanse of golden beach where bathing, boating and fishing combine to make the joys of an invigorating out-door holiday pleasant, stimulating and safe. The town of Frankston, picturesquely situat- : ed within twenty-five milesol Melbourne, the capital oitlu* State of Victoria, the second larg- j est city in the Commonwealth of Australia, is well famed as a tourist resort.

Excellent transport facilities are available by fast electric trains, whilst the road from Melbourne is one of tbe most favoured iu the State. On this eutrancingly beautiful site it is proposed to erect the most perfect canvas city in the world —an ideal camp for an ideal Jamboree. Committees of experts are busily engaged upou a great assortment of plans so that the camp itself will constitute a striking manifestation of genuine Scout efficiency. In the State of Victoria there are 17500 Scouts, and in the Commonwealth of Australia there are 60,000 Scouts, and thev are all working in a spirit of inspiring co-op-eration to ensure the complete success of this Jamboree. Each and everyone extends to each and every one of you the most fraternal of greetings and the most cordial of invitations to come along and join the great throng for this vastly, interesting fortnight's camping in January, 1935.

You were informed in our first news-bidietm that the Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell, and the World Chief Cruide, Lady Laden-Powell, had promised to be present at this Jamboree. Since then many other famous leaders of both movements have intimated their keenness to be present also. Here is a list of a few who will be with us at the Jamboree: The Headquarters Commissioner for United .Kingdom, Sir Percy Everett; Commissioner for Special Tests, Sir Montague Burrows; the Camp Chief, Mr J. S. Wilson,, who is beloved throughout the woild as the guiding genius of (jilwell Park, England.

Now you see we have started in line style. "Will you come along :us well:' We confidently guarantee you a fine time in one of the finest countries in the world.

Whilst the Jamboree is being held there will be great celebrations of an international character taking place throughout the State of Victoria in connection with the hundredth anniversary of Melbourne and the State. It is anticipated that these Centenary Celebrations will attract at least 50,000 visitors from countries other than Australia, and that at least half a million people from the Commonwealth will visit Melbourne and Victoria for this great occasion. The celebrations will commence in October, 1934, and they will be continued until June 1935, so the Jamboree will be right in tlie centre of the fun. Most elaborate preparations are being made for these celebrations and the entire State of Victoria will be en fete to make everything as brilliant as human ability can devise.

You will not regret your visit to Australia to attend this Jamboree, and you are assured of a great welcome from a great peo-

. le for this great occasion. Xews-bulletins of this nature will be sent to you from time to • ime, and we would very much

iippreciate your views on the general plans of the Jamboree which s re outlined by us. Please address ; 11 communications to: The Jamboree Secretary, the Boy Scouts' ssociatioi), Victorian Branch, 64 'lizabeth Street, Melbourne, C.l, \ ictoria, Australia.
