Matinee at 2 p.m.— The children will enjoy the fine programme to be shown at the matinee to-morrow afternoon. Tim McCoy is a new Western star said to he every bit as good as the well known ones.
Fish ’o.— 1 , Several good catches of schnapper have been made from the Opunake wharf during the last ten days. One local fisherman secured seven beauties and states that the fish are very plentiful at present.
Double Star To-night.— Two excellent pictures will be screened to-night and to-morrow at the New Theatre. The first, entitled “The Phantom of Crestwood” is a real thriller and the other deals with lile in the West.
Still White-capped.— It is unusual for Mt. Egmont to have such a heavy covering of snow at this time of the year and many hikers who have included the trip to summit in their itinerary, state that the job is a difficult one at present.
Excursions to the Beach.— Several railway excursions will be run to Opunake during February and it is the intention of various sports bodies to arrange oneday tournaments on those occasions. Tenuis, croquet and bowling clubs will probably join in this proposal.
Haymakers Busy.— A trip through any part of Taraaki will find the fanners busy with the hay and ensilage crops, quite a number having taken advantage of the nice spell of warm weather. Some excellent slacks are to be seen ou the Eltham road and the country at present is looking in top-top order. A New Stable,—
Racing clubs will be glad to learn that A. Dulieu, trainer of Auckland, has transferred his horses to New Plymouth and will set up Ids headquarters in Taranaki. He has a very nice lot of horses, some of which are almost sure to be seen on the Pihama course on St, Patrick’s Day. New Residences. — Several new houses are almost completed in Opunake and add greatly to the appearance of the town. During the past four months, quite a brisk ..‘time has been experienced in this" industry and several new contracts which have recently been let will keep the local builders busy for some time.
Best on the Coast. — A visitor from Maul- (N.S.W.; a noted surf resort near Sydney, who spent the Christmas holidays in Opunake, remarked that the local beach was by far the best for surfing that lie had seen in New Zealand. He considered it safe and thought the whole hay lent itself admirably for further improvement.
