WEEK-END BOWLING

PARK CLUB DEFEATED. ON OPUNAKE GRfe^ Conditions, if ordered, could hardly have been more ideal than during the week-end when six rinks of Park (Hawera) bowlers visited Opunake to engage the local club in a full day friendly match. The green was in capitalorder both morning and afteK,, noon, the visitors, to a man, paß~' sing many congratulatory remarks during the course of play. Mr. Graham Hammond, in wei- 'l coming the visitors to the green, J said all present had looked forward to the match with much keeness, particularly as it gave the local club an opportunity of placing almost every playing member on the green. Previous matches with Park had always been very pleasantly contested and under such ideal conditions as existed at the moment, he was sure all would thoroughly enjoy themselves.

At the conclusion of play, Mr. J. Goodwin, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Opunake club for their hospitality and excellent games. . Along with the other members of the Park Club, he wished to congratulate Opunake on the state of the playing area which he honestly considered was second to none in Taranaki. Cheers were exchanged. The Play. Both morning and afternoon the local men played great bowls, winning by a fair margin on each occasion. In defeating such a strong combination as Park, the club have every reason to feel very proud, for the visitors have had many notable successes tjiis season to their credit.

WESTERN DIVIStON. SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP. The Western Division club champions will meet on the Upunake green on Saturday, February 23rd at 9 a.m. to find the Division champion. The Cold Ferns, 'lke latest match played for tire above avus between Brennan, and Des Forges (s) v. Dalrymple and Sinclair (s). The former pair won 1G —11. The Silver Ferns. A new lease of life has taken place in this competition and McCrone and Looney (s) 19 who defeated Pitchic and Hickey (s) 18, arc the present holders.
