KAWEORA CAMP

MEN SETTLING DOWN. LETTER OF APPRECIATION. News is continually coming through in reference to the activities of the single men in the camp on the Kaweora Road. Already a number have settled; down to make the best' of life under their present conditions and throughout all their correspondence there is a tone of optimism, j It took Joseph Conrad to place before the eyes of the world the unquenchable spirit of youth, and unquestionably this same spirit is to be found in the Kaweora camp. The work is proceeding apace, and no longer can this gang of workmen be classed as unemployed. They are doing a man's work, and although the wages are comparatively low, nevertheless, each and everyone appreciate what little the country is doing for them. Settlers have organised a series of euchre parties and dances, the men always turning up in full force and enjoying them to the full. • ' No gesture could express more fully the genuine gratitude of the men to those endeavouring to give them a hand out, than/-the following letter sent to office during the week:— The Editor, Opxinake Times Dear Sir," —The men of the Kaweora camp request if they could, through the medium of your paper, publicly K than® Mr. J. Morris, storekeeper, Opunake, for his kind and thoughtful gift of a number of tins of pineapple. Thanking you for space to express our appreciation of the above gentleman's action. I am, Yours faithfully, J. RICHARDS.
