MOTHERS’ WELFARE LEAGUE
MEETING HELD YESTERDAY. ACTIVITIES SOON TO COMMENCE. For some time it has been felt that the formation of a Mothers’ Welfare League would prove of great benefit to Opunake and the district generally. This has been proved in no uncertain manner, when the meeting which was held yesterday afternoon attracted about -30 ladies, anxious to assist in the movement. Mrs. W. H. Burgess was elected president and Mrs. D. Fraser, secretary. One of the primary objects in forming the league is to cooperate with the school committee in raising funds to carry out a concreting work which is urgently required at the primary school. Several suggestions for raising funds were made, and it was decided on the motion of Mrs. McCullum, seconded by Mrs. Thomas, that an Old Timers’ Ball be held early in August. It was stated that a euchre party was already organised and tickets were being sold, the funds to go towards the concrete work. The newly formed League will meet on the second Thursday in each month at 2.30 p.m.
