RED CROSS SOCIETY
OPUNAKE BRANCH FORMED. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. A meeting for the purpose of forming a branch of the Red Cross Society in Opunake was held on Wednesday evening. Members of the executive of the Hawera branch were present. An apology was received from Mr. I. J. Bridger of Elthani, president of the South Taranaki Council of the Red Cross for his non-attendance. Mr. Cameron, Hawera, explained the aims and activities of the Society. There were already in Opunake three classes in connection with the Red Cross, and it would be to their own advantage to form a branch of the Society here. On the motion of Mr. Cameron it was decided to form a branch of the Red Cross in Opunake. Election Of Officers. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. T. P. Hughsou, junr.; vice-presidents, Revs. J. G. Wheatley, A. J. Farnell, C. M. Roberts, Father Kennedy, Dr. T. N. Watt and Dr. E. M. Griffin; secretary. Miss E. Henry, and Miss Shepherd treasurer. All present were elected as members of the executive with power to add. The meeting of the new branch will be held on Monday evening next when all interested in the work ai'e invited to attend. At the conclusion of the meeting a vote of thanks was passed to the Hawera members for their interest in the formation of the Opunake branch. Those present from Hawera were; — Mrs. King, secretary of-the South Taranaki Council; Sister Inglis, Miss McCall, Miss Stephen, secretary of the Hawera branch and Mr. Cameron.
