Opunake Horticultural Society

' The annual meeting of the above took place on Wednesday evening, those present being Messrs D Mouri (chair) T $ Hickey and Mesdames Guy, Mouri, Ross and Miss . Monro. Prior to the commencement of the meeting votes of sympathy were passed to Mr and Mrs A H Moore and Mr G W Rogers in their recent sad bereavements The late Mrs Rogers was one of the original members of the society and a keen worker.

I The balance sheet, which was ! adopted, showed a credit balance of £8 16s 4d. The election of officers resulted as follows : Patron, Mr O Hawken, M.P , president, Mr John Pettigrew, vice, presidents, Messrs THH Sinclair, F Julian, H B Gibson, R E Baeyerty, A E Brunette, ] P Burton, T P Hughson junr., John Feaver senr., S R, J and G Feaver, F M Corkill, J O D Stewart, D Mouri, } Judson, E G Baylis, C W Newport, H Holmes Wm Cron, G W Rogers H W Barraclough, E J Dudley ; secretary, T S Hickey, auditor A J Brennan ; committee Messrs C D Edmonds (chairman) T S Hickey, D Mouri, G Baylis, Rev H A Moore, Rev Solomon and Mesdames Mouri, Solomon, J Feaver, Ross, Guy, Baylis, G Feaver and G Hammond.

It it decided that the autumn show be held in February and that an active canvas be made for new members.

A vote of thanks was passed to all who assisted the society during the past year. Mis Ross indicated that she would give a special prize of 5s for a chilIrMiStfany age) • root growing com- ... 1 ion table vegetables such as icuiots, turnips, parsnips etc. potatoes and onions excepted) and also a special prize of 5s for the collection of ;able vegetables grown and exhibited by boys or girls under 14 years of age. School grown collections not allowed in either class.
