WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
WAIMANA-NUKUHOU The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nuktihou Women’s Institute was held.last Tuesday afternoon in tho Waimana Hall, Mrs. N. Clark presiding over a good attendance of members and several visitors. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute Song, which was followed by tho singing of the hymn, “0 God Our Help in Ages Past”. At the conclusion of the business, all “Grandmas” were presented with posies of llowcrs (it being Grandmas’ Day). Little Monica Boynton sang, 1 “When Your Hair Has Turned To Silver” and “Grandma Said”. It was decided to hold a bazaar in November for Patriotic Funds. The members contributed £2 towards tho Leper Fund. An exchange of programme with Waiotahi was accepted. The 14 Christmas parcels were packed and forwarded, and the Institute has sent 17 Christmas cakes to the boys who have left Waimana and Nukuhou. Members are still knitting for soldiers. The day’s competitions were as follows: Best Flower: Mrs. F. Bell (tulip) 1, Mrs. T. Wardlaw 2, Airs. K. Bell 3. Best Vegetable: Airs. Black I, Airs. I. Savage 2, Airs. King 3. Posy of Wild Flowers : .Mrs. Hewitt 1, Mrs. King 2, Mrs. I. Savage 3. Jar of Dark Plum Jam : Airs. T. Wardlaw 1, Mrs. I. Savage 2, Airs. F. Bell 3. Gingerbread Loaf: Aliss At. Wardlaw 1, Airs. T. Wardlaw 2, Airs. Stevenson 2. / The hostesses served a most enjoyable afternoon tea. At the conclusion of the meeting a hearty vote of thanks was passed to tho judges, and the singing of tho National Anthem closed the meefcing.
