CRICKET

THE OPOTIKI ASSOCIATION QUESTION OF PLAY There was only a small attendance at the annual meeting of the Opotiki Cricket Association, held in the R. S.A. room on Saturday night, and presided over by the president, Mr. VV, Pilkingtcm senr. No City Club representatives were present. At the beginning of the meeting it was stated that there was little prospect of the old teams taking the field on account of the shortage of players due to the war. Mr. E. Wells suggested a canvass of thp district to see how many players would be available to niake up teams. ITe considered they should try and keep the game aLvo by holding friendly games occasionally. The general opinion appeared to be that the Association would have to carry on with only a small committee until after the war so that cricket gear and other matters could be attended to in the meantime. A small committee was then formed with Mr. W. Pilkington jnr. as secretary. The retiring secretary, Mr. M. Le Pine, stated that the Association would be in a position to pay all accounts, when fees were paid. On the motion of Mr. Wells, the retiring secretary was thanked for his services, both as an official and as a player. Those present were asked to secure as many players as possible in an endeavour to start the playing of friendly games. *
