FINES WITHOUT TRIAL (News by Cable.) TOKIO, Oct. 2. The British Embassy said to-da; of the seven Britons convicted c espionage in Japan, Captain C. 1 James, R.N., retired, chief representative of the Federation of Brit ish Industries in Tokio, was fined 500 yen without trial, Messrs. E. W. James, Hamish MacNaughton, hon : orary consul for Greece in Osaka, and John Drummond 200 yen without trial, Mr. Michael Ringer was sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment with four years’ stay of execution, Mr. Vanya.was fined 150 yen and also sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment with a. four years’ stay of execution. Mr. Trgfford was released after trial without being sentenced. The cases of the other three are still under investigation.
