HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING MONTHLY LECTURES SUSPENDED DURING WAR SHOWS FOR PATRIOTIC PURPOSES On account of a postponement, and other attractions there was only a small attendance' at the annual meeting of the Opotiki and District Horticultural Society .held in the Parish-flail. The,president, Mr. J. D. Clark, presented the annual report and balance-sheet which were adopted on the proposal of Mr. Woodside, seconded by Mr. G, L.sk. The following officers were elected :

Patrons, Messrs. T. G. Johnson and N. Potts. President, Mr. J. D. Clark (reelected). Vice-presidents, Messrs. C. W. Reid and F. Roe. Secretary, Mr. J. Woodside. Committee: Mesdames McGregor, Quirk, Hircl, HolJard, Jeffery, Baird, Miss A. Upton and Mr. G. Lisk. The appo.ntment of a treasurer was left in the hands of the committee. General After discussion it was decided t. : discontinue the monthly display and lectures for the duration of the war and to hold periodic shows to be open for public competition, the profits to be handed to the Patriotic funds. The next show will be held in November. The annual subscription was fixed as prevously, this being 2/6. Mrs. McGregor was awarded the prize for the most outstanding vase. A vote of thanks to Mr. L.'sk, tho retiring secretary, and also to tho president, brought the .meeting to a close.
