Sir,—Since the outbreak of influenza you have repeatedly warned residents to take precautions to guard against' infection. Apparently littla notice is being taken of your efforts to guard against the waste of human life. Already residents in all parts of the town and district are being j stricken down and still the real sr> ousnessi of the epidemic does not appear to be yet fully realised by the great majority. In the interests o' all and to endeavour to cope successfully with the outbreak I would suggest that the health authorities insist on all who have had the complaint being compelled to stay in. their homes or hospitals till the doctors say they are quite recovered and will not act as carriers. Arid again a big help to those who are doing their utmost would be if residents would as far as possible remain at their own homes and needless visiting of neighbours be discontinued for the time being. We have got to recognise that this epidemic has become serious, and if the health authorities should decid" on closing all places of business for a certain time and isolating all residents at their homes for a week or so, I think it would be the quickest way of combating the complaint.
